In a career spanning 25 years, André Carrilho (Portugal) has won over 30 national and international prizes in illustration, editorial cartoon, animation and caricature, and has shown his work in group and solo exhibitions in Portugal, Spain, Brazil, France, Czech Republic, China and USA. His work has been published in an extended list of newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, among others. In 2002 he was awarded the Gold Award for Illustrator’s Portfolio by the Society for News Design (USA), one of the most prestigious illustration awards in the world. In 2015 one of his cartoons on the ebola epidemic became viral worldwide, winning the Grand Prize at the World Press Cartoon. THE GIRL WITH THE OCCUPIED EYES (2020) was his first children’s book, followed by DEAR SEA (2022).
