Sophia stood out as a poet and a children’s writer. During the Portuguese dictatorship, she became a leading figure in the democratic opposition thanks to a brave intervention in favour of freedom and democracy. Afterwards, she was elected to the Constituent Assembly and took part in the drafting of the 1976 Constitution.
