The World is Round is Gertrude Stein's most famous book for children. Originally published in 1939, it is currently out of print in its complete French version. Following the discovery of The Reading Book, Editions Cambourakis are continuing their work of rediscovering Gertrude Stein's major texts, supported by a new translation by Martin Richet and illustrations by Alice Lorenzi, who had already worked on the previous volume. The book follows the adventures of two children, Rose and Willie, in search of identity amidst lush fauna and flora. It encompasses characteristic elements of Gertrude Stein's writing, her manipulation of grammar, alliterations, all culminating in the famous refrain "a rose is a rose is a rose," engraved on a tree along the children's path.
