Only the Ground

Seul le Sol

Lou Sarabadzic & Maya Mihindou

Cambourakis | October 2024 | 48 PAGES | 21 × 29,7 CM | hardcover

Sand, soil, tarmac, concrete, grass or even pebbles… The ground is diverse, hilly, flat or uneven, but always a support for the fauna, flora and humans that inhabit the Earth. Re-establishing its vital nature, this long poem in the form of haikus reminds us that soil is the memory of life, and how crucial it is to take care of it, to preserve our world and a livable future.

Enhanced by Maya Mihindou’s colourful and evocative drawings, this dreamy, joyful and educational text invites children to become more aware of the world they live in, whether they live in the city or the countryside, and encourages them to learn about the fight against soil erosion and the preservation of the environment.

MAYA MIHINDOU (Gabon) was born in Gabon in 1984 and lives in France. As a self-taught illustrator, drawing enables her to tackle the question of precarious, uprooted, fragile and shifting identities. Her photography work extends these reflections in the context of documentaries (in Mexico, but also in Cameroon, Burundi and Gabon), travels and more personal projects.
